Bikes have always been a huge part of life in LA. It is a cheap an efficient way to get around, and everyone seems to be doing it. Young or old, guys and girls, everyone has a bike.
One thing that has always been a problem is the traffic fighting bicyclists. There is never a time where only bikes can have the road and cars yield to them. Until now. Today is Ciclavia. A downtown bike takeover that has streets closed off to cars, and thousands of people on bikes can cruise around and not worry about any vehicle coming at them. This happens once every few months in downtown LA. It pretty much throws a wrench in the normal traffic, but makes businesses boom because of the bike and foot traffic coming to their door.
Today is a great day if you have a bike in LA. Ciclavia might be a bane to people who have to drive somewhere downtown, but for everyone else, Ciclavia is a two-wheeled blast.
